Florida State Swimming And Diving Finishes Home Season With Victory Over FAU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State swimming and diving team finished its home season by defeating Florida Atlantic on Friday afternoon at the Bobby E. Leach Center Pool. The Seminole women defeated the Owls 160-118 to earn their school record 16th victory of the season. The Florida State men (10-4, 2-2) beat FAU by a score of 178-98.

"That's 16 wins now for the women's team and that's the most ever," said FSU head coach Neil Harper. "I'm excited about that and I'm also excited about our crowd. A lot of fans came out today and it was a good way to finish up our home season."

The FSU women's team (16-2, 5-0) was lead by sophomore Stevi Steinhauer who swept the sprint events. The Pensacola, Fla. native won the 50 free in a time of 23.72 and touched the wall in the 100 free in 51.78. Freshman C.J. Hendry (Evans, Ga.) also won two events on the afternoon. Hendry was victorious in the 100 backstroke (57.27) and 200 butterfly (2:03.87).

"Stevi [Steinhauer] had really been coming on strong," Harper said. "She's really developed well and still has room to grow. C.J. [Hendry] is solid and swimming well. We're going to have to decide which events she will score the highest in at ACC's."

On the men's side it was a pair of Florida State seniors who led the way. Ian Powell (Guernsey, Channel Islands, England) won three events on the afternoon. Powell led off the meet with a win in the 100 back (51.41) and took home a second victory in the 200 free touching the wall in 1:44.77. His third and final win came in the 200 back (1:50.94). Michael Rice (North Miami, Fla.) ended his home career by sweeping the butterfly events.

Seminole Women Top Arkansas; Both Men and Women Fall to Auburn

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State swimming and diving wrapped up its dual meet schedule on Saturday morning as the women's team defeated Arkansas 194-106 while both the women (177-118) and the men (190-106) were defeated by Auburn.

"The girls got another win to them 17 victories on the season," head coach Neil Harper said. "When you go up to Auburn you don't get many wins so it was a great accomplishment for us."

In the victory over the Razorbacks, Florida Sate (17-3, 5-0) got another stellar showing from Stevi Steinhauer (Pensacola, Fla.). The sophomore swam a personal best time winning the 50 free touching the wall in 23.46. She also won the 100 free against Arkansas (third overall) with a time of 51.52. The Seminoles had a great showing on the diving board as well, sophomore Aleia Monden (Mililani, Hawaii) won the one-meter (241.40) and sophomore Katie Sirounis (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla.) was victorious on the three-meter (289.40).

On the men's side it was junior Scott Baker who turned in Florida State's (10-5, 4-2) top performance. The Lake Mary, Fla. native won the 50 free in a NCAA "B" qualifying time of 20.09. It was Baker's best time of the season until he bested it leading-off the 200 free relay with an outstanding 19.91. Diver Terry Horner (Orlando, Fla.) also had a nice day for the Seminoles.
