GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Men's Indoor Track & Field Team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. The 50-member team was voted on by the nine league institutions as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.
Clemson led all league schools with 10 members on the Golden Anniversary team while Georgia Tech and North Carolina were tied for second with nine honorees apiece. Maryland had seven runners selected, followed by Duke (5), Virginia (4), NC State (3), Florida State (2), and Wake Forest with one.
The ACC's 50th Anniversary Men's Indoor Track & Field team, in alphabetical order, is as follows:
Derrick Adkins, Georgia Tech (1989-1990, 1992-1993)
1996 Olympic gold medalist in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles ... member of the national championship 4x400 relay squad in 1993 ... earned All-America honors twice and won ACC titles in that event in 1989, '92 and '93 ... a three-time all-conference selection.
Mike Armour, Georgia Tech (1981, 1983-1985)
With a time of 1:01.26, Armour established the world record in the 500 meters while at Tech in 1985 ... earned All-American honors in that event in 1985 and as a member of Tech's mile relay team in 1983 ... a four-time All-ACC honoree.
Jim Beatty, North Carolina (1954-1957)
All-American for two miles in 1955 and 1957, and 5,000 meters in 1956 ... ACC champion in the mile and two miles in 1955, 1956 and 1957 ...
