His latest book, Tales From the Duke Blue Devils Hardwood, was published in 2005. In his bimonthly column "Looking Back… by Jim Sumner", he will examine the rich history of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

North Carolina State has been playing intercollegiate baseball since 1903. Some pretty good players and coaches have suited up for State. But all of State's baseball teams have ended their seasons shy of the ultimate destination of Omaha, home of the College World Series... All except one.
