Walz, USA U23s Set to Open Four Nations Tournament Saturday
Louisville’s Durr and Notre Dame’s Ogunbowale ready for action in Tokyo
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Louisville head coach Jeff Walz will look to continue his unblemished record with USA Basketball as he and the U23 National Team compete in the U24 Four Nations Tournament Saturday-Tuesday at Katayanagi Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Included on the USA U23 National Team roster are Louisville’s Asia Durr and Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale.
Team USA opens the tournament on Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m. ET against Australia and will then face Canada at 3:30 a.m. ET on Sunday. Team USA wraps the three-game event on Tuesday morning at 5:30 a.m. ET against host Japan.
Walz, in his third stint with USA Basketball, helped both the 2014 USA Basketball Women's U-18 National Team and 2015 U.S. Women's U-19 World Championship Team to gold medals with a combined 12-0 record.
Notre Dame’s Ogunbowale leads the team with four gold medals from the 2014 Youth Olympic Games (3x3), the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship, the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and the 2013 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship. During the most recent college season, she was ranked 13th in the ACC for field goal percentage (.449) and fifth in total points (588).
Louisville’s Durr has two gold medals from the 2013 FIBA Americas U-16 Championship and the 2014 FIBA U-17 World Championship. The first team All-ACC selection and AP Honorable Mention All-American finished this past collegiate season averaging 19.2 points per game and scored 692 points.
