Wake Forest's Craig Named D1Baseball Player of the Year

Wake Forest junior Will Craig was named the National Player of the Year on Thursday, a day after inking his professional contract with the Pirates.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WakeForestSports.com) – Wake Forest junior Will Craig was named the National Player of the Year by D1Baseball on Thursday, the organization announced. 

The Johnson City, Tennessee native hit .371 with 16 homers, 16 doubles and 66 RBIs, leading Wake Forest to its first NCAA Regional berth since 2007. 

On the mound, Craig finished with a 2-0 record and 3.54, leading the team with nine saves. 

He has been a two-year All-American, earning first team honors at third base in 2016 and at first base in 2015. 

On Wednesday, Craig was named a first team All-American by NCBWA, and was named to the ABCA/Rawlings first team All-Region team. 

The 22nd overall draft pick in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Craig signed a professional contract and will report to Pittsburgh's short-season Class A team in West Virginia.
