Wake Forest Collects ACC Weekly Honors

Bakero, Ferrell recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest’s Jon Bakero and Alec Ferrell have been named the ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Bakero scored two of Wake Forest’s three goals last week against two top-10 opponents, both coming in critical situations. In a 2-1 win at No. 9 Akron, the sophomore forward from Sitges, Spain, scored in the 21st minute to give the Demon Deacons the lead. On Saturday against No. 6 Clemson, he tied the game in 63rd minute to help Wake Forest earn a point and stay atop the Atlantic Division Standings.  He is tied for sixth in the league with four goals on the season.

Ferrell played a major role in net in helping the Demon Deacons to a 1-0-1 record against the two highly ranked teams. He posted seven saves in each game, matching his career-high both times. In the win at Akron, the junior goalkeeper from Westlake, Ohio, made a save on a close-range header in the 80th minute to preserve the victory. Against Clemson, he made three saves late in the game in a steady rainfall to keep the game tied.
