Vittese, Jecko Earn ACC Field Hockey Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia midfielder Tara Vittese and Syracuse goalkeeper Jess Jecko have been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Vittese scored the first goal of the season for the Cavaliers 2:19 into the game and added two assists to lead the offense in a 6-0 victory in the season opener against Drexel on Friday. On Sunday against No. 7 Penn State, the native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, scored the game-tying goal with 1:23 remaining. In overtime, she fired a shot that was saved but rebounded to Nikki Freeman, who scored the game winner.

Jecko allowed just one goal in two games as the Orange defeated No. 6 Stanford in overtime, 2-1, on Friday and UC Davis, 4-0, on Saturday. Against the Cardinal, the native of Clinton, New York, stopped a late rally as Stanford put four late shots on net in the final five minutes of regulation.
