Virginia’s Diaz-Yi named ACC Women’s Golfer of the Month


Sophomore’s first-place Tar Heel Invitational finish highlights October

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.org) – Virginia’s Lauren Diaz-Yi has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for October.

Diaz-Yi won the first tournament of her career when she placed first at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, North Carolina,, shooting a career-low 7-under 209. She took medalist honors by four strokes. She matched her career-low 18-hole score with a 3-under 69 during the final round. She is the sixth player in the history of the program to claim medalist honors. She tied the UVa tournament scoring record for a sophomore and was just one stroke shy of equaling the Cavaliers’ all-time low 54-hole score.

Diaz-Yi added a 14th-place finish at the Landfall Tradition hosted by UNC Wilmington. Diaz-Yi compiled a 217 score for three rounds and finished the month with a scoring average of 71.0.

For the season, Diaz-Yi currently ranks fifth in scoring average among ACC golfers at 72.1.
