ACC Women’s Soccer: Virginia’s Brittany Ratcliffe Named ACC Player of the Week


Junior forward scores game winner in the 90th minute at No. 14/10 Notre Dame

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia junior forward Brittany Ratcliffe has been named the ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office. 

Ratcliffe scored the game-winning goal with 20 seconds remaining to play in Virginia’s 2-1 win at No. 14/10 Notre Dame on Sunday, Oct. 5. The win marked the Cavaliers’ first over a ranked opponent this season. 

The game was headed to overtime until Ratcliffe rounded Makenzy Doniak’s deflected shot on goal and knocked it in to give Virginia its third league win. 

The Williamstown, New Jersey, native is tied for the team lead in goals with six, which also ranks seventh in the ACC. 
Virginia, which holds stead at No. 5 in the latest Soccer America Top 25 released on Tuesday, is one of five ACC teams ranked in the poll and one of three in the Top 10 (No. 2 Florida State, No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 North Carolina, No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 13 Virginia Tech).
