Virginia's Bird Named ACC Men’s Soccer Player Of The Week

Senior delivers the lone goals in each of two 1-0 Cavalier wins

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia senior midfielder Eric Bird has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

The Virginia Beach, Va., native scored the only goals in a pair of 1-0 Virginia wins over 25th-ranked George Mason and Duke last week. He found the back of the net in the second half of last Tuesday’s road win at George Mason, and headed home what proved to be the game-winning score in the 13th minute of Saturday’s victory over the Blue Devils.

Bird also has been a key force on defense, where UVa has recorded three straight clean sheets and held opponents scoreless for the last 350 minutes of game time. His efforts have helped the Cavaliers extend their winning streak to four matches.
