Virginia Tech’s Acuna and Lundgaard Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Marcelo Acuna and Ben Lundgaard have been named the ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Making his debut for the Hokies, Acuna scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute, driving a header into the back of the net to give Virginia Tech the double overtime win over No. 18 Ohio State. On Sunday in a 3-0 win over Oakland, the sophomore forward from San Jose, Costa Rica, scored during the 14th minute for his second goal of the season.  With the Hokies winning the Wolstein Classic, Acuna was named to the All-Tournament Team and named the MVP of the weekend.

Lundgaard recorded his 10th and 11th career shutouts last weekend. On Friday, he made three saves on nine shots faced to hold the 18th-ranked Buckeyes scoreless in 107 minutes of action. On Sunday, he made three saves in 82 minutes of play as the Hokies defeated Oakland, 3-0. The junior goalkeeper from Greenville, Delaware, was named to the Wolstein Class All-Tournament Team for his two performances.
