Tree Lighting Ceremony in Uptown Charlotte Starts ACC Football Championship Game Celebration

Tree lighting on Thursday, Dec. 3 kicks off Championship Weekend festivities.

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Atlantic Coast Conference will join in Uptown Charlotte’s “Lights on the Square” festivities with the annual Uptown Tree Lighting ceremony, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3.

The event, hosted by Charlotte Center City Partners, will be held at The Square, located at the intersection of Trade and Tryon Streets in Uptown Charlotte.

In addition to food, cars on display and other attractions on the Disk Plaza, entertainment will begin at 5:30 pm inside Founders Hall. Performances will include The Hough High Show Choir, Seventh Son chorus, and GottaSwing Charlotte dancers. Santa will arrive before the tree is lit at 6:30 pm and will then be joined by the mascots in Founders Hall.

All 14 ACC football mascots will ride in a trolley around the city leading up to their arrival at The Square. Fans are encouraged to attend and take photos with their favorite mascot. The ACC’s participation in the Tree Lighting Ceremony will be the first of many events leading up to Saturday’s Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game to be held at Bank of America Stadium.

“The tree lighting ceremony kicks off both the 2015 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game weekend and the holiday season,” said Will Webb, executive director of Charlotte Sports Foundation, the local organizing committee. “The event brings the ACC mascots, music and other festivities to the Uptown Charlotte community.”
