The Open Championship Features 13 ACC Golfers

Play gets underway Thursday at St Andrews

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The field that begins play Thursday at the 144th Open Championship includes 13 golfers from ACC schools.

Six league programs are represented at the Old Course at St Andrews, and three have multiple former players. The field includes Clemson’s Ben Martin, Duke’s Kevin Streelman, Florida State’s Brooks Koepka, Jonas Blixt, and Daniel Berger, Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans, Stewart Cink, David Duval, Cameron Tringale, and Matt Kuchar, NC State’s Carl Pettersson, and Wake Forest’s Webb Simpson and Bill Haas. 

Four golfers from ACC schools have won The Open Championship seven times. Georgia Tech’s Bobby Jones won three Opens, followed by Wake Forest’s Arnold Palmer with two and Georgia Tech’s Duval and Cink with one victory apiece. The seven combined wins are the second most from any conference.

Play gets underway Thursday morning in Fife, Scotland, at the Old Course at St Andrews.
