Thaiss and Dunshee Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia’s Matt Thaiss has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Wake Forest’s Parker Dunshee was selected as Pitcher of the Week.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. This is the second career award for Thaiss and first for Dunshee.

Batting third in the lineup, Thaiss had hits and scored in every game as the Cavaliers went 3-1 last week, including a key series win over No. 13 North Carolina. The junior catcher from Jackson, New Jersey, reached base safely in 14 of his 18 plate appearances (.778 OBP), and was 8-for-12 with a triple, a home run, and seven RBI. He hit the game-tying single in the Friday win over the Tar Heels and had two key hits in the series-clinching victory on Sunday, a game-tying, two-run single as well as a two-run home run. He reached base in five of his six plate appearances on Sunday as he upped his on-base percentage to .483 for the season.

A junior from Zionsville, Indiana, Dunshee held No. 4 Florida State to two hits and zero runs in 7.0 innings pitched in the Demon Deacons’ 9-0 win on Friday night. The Seminoles’ offense, which entered the weekend with the second-most runs in the conference, was held scoreless for just the second time this season. Wake Forest went on to win a three-game series over Florida State for the first time since 2002.
