ACC Volleyball: Taylor Treacy and Julia Scoles Earn Weekly Honors

Two Tar Heels claim honors on opening weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – University of North Carolina opposite hitter Taylor Treacy and outside hitter Julia Scoles earned the first weekly Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball honors of the 2016 season.

Treacy was named ACC Player of the Week and Scoles ACC Freshman of the Week. The pair helped the Tar Heels to a win over No. 9 Penn State on the Nittany Lions’ home court, in addition to wins over Georgia Southern and West Virginia. 

Treacy, a redshirt senior, a Preseason All-ACC Team selection, registered 25 kills, eight total blocks, four digs, two assists, a .322 hitting percentage and averaged 2.50 kills per set.  In the win over West Virginia, Treacy recorded six kills, five blocks and a .333 hitting percentage. Over Penn State, Treacy notched 11 kills. 

Scoles tallied 30 kills, averaging 3 kills per set and 33 digs, averaging 3.30 digs per set upon conclusion of the tournament. In her collegiate debut, recorded a .438 hitting percentage, eight kills, four digs, two blocks and two aces in North Carolina’s win over Georgia Southern. She recorded back-to-back double-doubles against West Virginia (11 kills, 14 digs) and Penn State (11 kills, 15 digs). Scoles currently leads the Tar Heels in kills and digs. 

At the conclusion of the tournament, Scoles was name Most Valuable Player and Treacy earned a spot on the Penn State Classic All-Tournament Team.
