Syracuse’s Fenne, Weers Earn ACC Honors

Orange defeated No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 19 Princeton

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse’s Alma Fenne and Roos Weers have been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Fenne tallied three goals and an assist in the first half as the top-ranked Orange rolled past No. 6 Wake Forest, 6-0. The senior midfielder from Amsterdam, Netherlands, scored the game’s first goal four minutes into the game to extend her goal-scoring streak to five before assisting on the second goal minutes later. She polished off the first-half scoring by netting a pair of goals in the final 1:28 of the half to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week.

Weers anchored a Syracuse defense that allowed just three shots in the win over the Demon Deacons, while also netting a goal off a corner in the win. The freshman back from Bussum, Netherlands, followed up that performance by helping the Orange defense allow just four shots in the second half in a comeback win over No. 19 Princeton. She also assisted on the game-tying goal and scored the go-ahead goal in the win.

This is the second ACC Player of the Week honor for both Fenne and Weers this year.
