Syracuse’s Bleakney and Spencer Collect ACC Weekly Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse’s Jennifer Bleakney and Regan Spencer have been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Bleakney scored her first two collegiate goals, including the eventual game-winning goal, as the Orange defeated Temple 8-0 to open the season on Friday. The sophomore forward from Columbia, Maryland, followed up that performance with a second-half goal as Syracuse came from behind to defeat No. 6 Maryland, 4-1.
Spencer recorded a shutout in her first collegiate start against Temple, and allowed just one goal on a penalty stroke against No. 6 Maryland to start the season. The senior goalkeeper made one save against the Owls and stopped five shots against the Terrapins to lead the defending national champions to a 2-0 start to the 2016 season.
