GREENSBORO, N.C. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association released the 2011 All-America teams on Wednesday, and 15 ACC players were recognized for their performances this season. Miami’s Lane Carico, the 2011 ACC Player of the Year, and Florida State’s Jekaterina Stepanova were named Second-Team All-Americans.
Carico led the Hurricanes to a 26-5 record and 16-4 mark in conference play this season and the first NCAA Tournament win for the program since 2002. She is Miami’s all-time leader in kills (1,749) and points (1973.5), and stands second in digs (1,715).
A native of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Carico was the 2008 ACC Freshman of the Year and earned All-ACC honors in 2009 and 2010 prior to being named as the conference’s Player of the Year this season. After being selected for the AVCA Third Team in 2010, Carico becomes just the second player in ACC history to earn multiple All-America Honors higher than Honorable Mention.
This season, Stepanova led Florida State to an ACC title, four NCAA Tournament wins, and a berth in the national semifinals. She is the second Seminole to earn All-American Honors higher than Honorable Mention, following Brianna Barry’s Second-Team selection in 2009.
A native of Riga, Latvia, Stepanova was named the Minneapolis Regional MVP for her performance in the wins over No. 5 Purdue and No. 4 Iowa State. She was also named to the 2011 AVCA All-East Region Team and the All-ACC Team.
