GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami outside hitter Lane Carico registered her league-leading 25th double-double of the season and has been tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Teammate Ryan Shaffer, a libero, averaged six digs per set en route to being selected the league’s Freshman of the Week.
Carico, a junior from Manhattan Beach, Calif., led Miami (23-8, 13-7 ACC) with 21 kills and 14 digs in its 3-2 victory at Florida State. She added two service aces and two block assists. The match marked her sixth outing of the season with 20-plus kills.
Shaffer, a freshman from San Jose, Calif., tallied a match-high 30 digs in the Hurricanes’ win over the Seminoles. It marked her second 30-plus dig performance of the season.
The two squads entered the match tied for third place in the conference. With the victory, Miami took over sole possession. The victory also ended a three-match losing streak to Florida State, which dated back to 2008.
The Hurricanes’ earned their second consecutive and third overall at-large bid to the 2010 NCAA Volleyball Championship and will travel to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Hoosiers Friday.
