GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami outside hitter Lane Carico averaged six kills per set en route to being honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Her teammate, libero Ryan Shaffer, tallied 20-plus digs in two matches and has been selected as the league's Freshman of the Week.
Carico, a junior from Manhattan Beach, Calif., hit .333 with 36 kills and 21 digs as the Hurricanes (22-8, 12-7 ACC) extended their winning streak to four matches with three-set sweeps of conference foes Boston College and Maryland.
Against the Eagles, Carico recorded a .405 hitting percentage with a match-best 18 kills and just three errors on 37 attempts. She also added 13 digs to record her league-leading 24th double-double. Carico followed that performance with another match-high 18 kills against the Terps along with eight digs and a block assist. She did not allow a single receive error off-service in 14 total attempts.
Shaffer, a freshman from San Jose, Calif., averaged 7.33 digs and 0.67 service aces per set in the Hurricanes' two victories.
Facing the Eagles Friday, Shaffer collected 22 digs and also recorded a service ace. She added 22 more digs in the match against the Terps, along with three service aces. Both dig totals were match highs. She was flawless on serve reception, not allowing a single receive error in 29 attempts.
