Florida State Clinches ACC Volleyball Title

Nov. 21, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s 3-1 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday clinched the ACC Volleyball title for the Seminoles, their third overall and second in three years. They will be awarded the league’s automatic qualification for the NCAA Tournament.

The Seminoles, who entered the weekend ranked No. 21 in the country, have three wins over ranked opponents in 2011. Led by the nation’s leading blocker in Ashley Neff, Florida State has ranked in the top five in blocks for most of the season.

"I think this season so far has been a carry-over of the second round last year in NCAAs when we played so well," said head coach Chris Poole. "Nationally, teams saw what type of team we had although the injuries really limited our potential. We had a good group coming back this season and that experience really helped us get another ACC title."

The Seminoles, along with the rest of the conference, now have one more conference match this week and then must await the NCAA Tournament selection show which airs live on ESPNU on Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.
