Nov. 1, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke middle blocker Amanda Robertson averaged 5.29 kills per set en route to being named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Virginia outside hitter McKenzie Adams notched a double-double against Miami and has been tabbed the league’s Freshman of the Week.

Robertson, a junior from Roxboro, N.C., hit .446 with 37 kills, 26 digs and three blocks as the Blue Devils (19-4, 11-2 ACC) topped league foes Clemson and Georgia Tech. Duke became the first team since 2005 to win all of its matches against the Tigers and Yellow Jackets in the same season.

Facing Clemson on Friday, Robertson connected on a career-high 22 kills while hitting .447 and collecting 16 digs. She followed that performance with 15 kills, 10 digs and a .444 clip versus Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Posting her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season, Robertson committed just eight attack errors on 65 attempts. She averaged more than 4.5 kills for every error.

Adams, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, averaged 3.44 kills and 2.22 digs per set as the Cavaliers (12-11, 6-7 ACC) defeated conference opponents Miami and Florida State. She led the team in total blocks with six and ranked second in kills.

Against the Hurricanes, she collected her fifth career double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs, while adding five blocks and a service ace. It marked the sixth time this season that she has posted double-digit digs, all of which have come in conference play.

On Sunday against then-No. 25 Florida State, Adams notched 13 kills, including the game-winner, as the Cavaliers earned their second-ever victory over a ranked team and first since 1996. It marked her ninth match of the season recording double-digit kills. She added eight digs, one block and one service ace.

The ACC Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week will be announced by 5 p.m. each Monday throughout the season. For more information on ACC volleyball visit http://www.theacc.com/sports/w-volley/acc-w-volley-body.html
