Wake Forest's Beck, Miami's Johnson Garner Weekly ACC Volleyball Honors for September 27

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest sophomore middle hitter Andrea Beck posted a career-high attack percentage against conference foe Georgia Tech and has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Miami outside hitter Alex Johnson registered her second double-double of the season and has been recognized as the league’s Freshman of the Week.

Beck, a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., hit .392 with 35 kills and 13 total blocks as Wake Forest (9-4/2-1 ACC) went 3-0 on the week, earning straight-set sweeps against two league opponents.

In the 3-0 win at Clemson, Beck matched her career high with 15 kills on a season-high 33 attempts for a .394 attack percentage. The victory snapped a seven-match losing streak to the Tigers and marked the Deacons’ first win on Clemson’s home court since 2004.

Beck followed that performance by hitting a career-best .524 as Wake Forest hit a season-high .350 and topped Georgia Tech in straight sets, picking up its first win in Atlanta since 1999. The sophomore also tallied six block assists, tying her career best.

Miami's Alex JohnsonJohnson, a freshman from Tallahassee, Fla., hit .381 with 18 kills and 24 digs as Miami (12-2/2-1 ACC) defeated league foes Virginia Tech and Virginia.

Against the Hokies, Johnson hit .421 with eight kills and did not register an attack error in 19 attempts. She also added one block assist and two service aces as the Hurricanes swept Virginia Tech 3-0.

Johnson notched a season- and match-high 23 digs in the 3-1 come-from-behind victory versus Virginia. She hit .348 with 10 kills en route to her second double-double of the season.
