ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State senior setter Megan Cyr and Boston college freshman outside hitter Katty Workman have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.

Cyr helped guide NC State a strong two weeks with eight wins in 15 days, capped off by victories over Wake Forest and Duke. Cyr was particularly effective during the matches against the Demon Deacons and Blue Devils, hitting an outstanding .706 in the two matches. She also led the team in assists (67), had four solo blocks and eight total blocks. Against Duke - a team the Wolfpack had only won three sets against since its last match victory in 2000 - Cyr recorded eight kills on 10 attacks with no errors, six digs and five total blocks.

The Wolfpack is now 13-1 overall and an undefeated 3-0 in the ACC, with wins over league foes Duke, Wake and North Carolina. It's the first time in school history the Pack has beaten the other three members of the Big Four in ACC contests in the same season. The win over Duke broke a 21-match losing streak in the series between the Triangle teams. The 13-1 record matches the second-best start in school history, along with last year and 1980. The team is creeping up on the all-time best start in school history, 18-1 in 1980. The 3-0 ACC start is the best since the Wolfpack went a perfect 6-0 in the league in 1988.

Workman led Boston College over the weekend with 30 kills and in hitting percentage (.257) in two road matches at Georgia Tech and Clemson. Against the Jackets, the Thousand Oaks, Calif., native led all players with 13 kills. The following day against the Tigers, she bettered her performance with 17 kills on a team-high .351 hitting percentage, her 13th match with double-digit kills in her freshman campaign.

On the season, Workman leads the Eagles with 4.00 kills per set which ranks first in the conference. In conference play, she has tallied a team-high 42 kills in 10 sets. This is her second ACC Freshman of the Week honor.
