GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami redshirt-junior setter Katie Gallagher earned all-tournament team honors and has been tabbed this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while her teammate, outside hitter Alexandria Johnson, has been recognized as the league’s Freshman of the Week.
The Hurricanes (7-1) went an unblemished 5-0 last week, dropping only three sets in 18 played. Miami won all four of its matches at Middle Tennessee’s Blue Raider Bash.
Gallagher, a native of Winter Park, Fla., started all 18 sets for the Hurricanes last week, averaging 12 assists and 2.28 digs per set. She also tallied 15 kills while committing just one error in 32 attempts. The setter led the Hurricanes with 216 assists and ranked second on the team with a .438 attack percentage. Her 41 digs were fourth-best on the team, and she added nine blocks, including one block solo.
Johnson, a freshman from Tallahassee, Fla., hit .356 for Miami, averaging 2.56 kills and 2.50 digs per set. She played in all of the Hurricanes’ 18 sets, tallying 10 blocks and six service aces. Johnson had double-digit kills in three matches and double-digit digs in two.
In the 3-0 sweep of Florida Atlantic Tuesday, Johnson posted a .625 attack percentage, tallying 10 kills, seven digs and one block. She did not register an attack error.
Against host Middle Tennessee, Gallagher hit .600 with 47 assists and nine digs. She also added three blocks, including one block solo. The Hurricanes topped the Blue Raiders 3-1.
Gallagher and Johnson both registered double-doubles in the 3-1 win over Georgia Southern. Behind seven kills and no attack errors, Gallagher hit .583 with 49 assists and 11 digs. Johnson added 14 kills and 11 digs, posting a .387 attack percentage.
