GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami outside hitter Lane Carico has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 4. Maryland outside hitter Ashleigh Crutcher won Freshman of the Week honors.
Carico, a member of the 2010 AVCA All-America Third Team, led the Hurricanes to a 3-0 record and a win in the Pepperdine Asics Classic in Malibu, Calif. In helping the Hurricanes remain unbeaten on the year, the Manhattan Beach, Calif. native averaged 3.10 kills and 5.00 digs in her return to her home state.
In Miami’s 3-1 victory over host Pepperdine, Carico tallied 13 kills and 20 digs en route to being named tournament MVP.
Crutcher led the Terrapins to three consecutive victories over the weekend to win the Marriott Maryland Invitational. The freshman compiled 33 kills and 29 digs in the three matches as Maryland did not drop a set in the tournament.
The Raleigh, N.C. native led all players in the tournament with the 33 kills and a 3.67 kills per set average. She picked up Marriott Maryland Invitational MVP honors for her performance.
