Florida State's Neff, Duke's Sklar Named ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State junior middle blocker Ashley Neff and Duke freshman outside hitter Emily Sklar have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.

Neff led Florida State to a perfect 3-0 weekend with a sweep at No. 15 Tennessee on Friday and wins over No. 10 Iowa State and Cincinnati on Saturday. The Kennesaw, Ga., native hit .500 or better in all three matches and averaged 1.45 blocks in eleven sets played. Against Tennessee, she tallied consecutive blocks with the score tied at 25-25 to clinch the first-set win, and she connected on three consecutive kills in the third set of the Iowa State match. For her performance, she garnered Comcast Lady Vol Classic Tournament MVP honors.

Sklar began her collegiate career on a high note, guiding the Blue Devils to three sweeps at the Duke Invitational. The rookie outside hitter led the team with 33 kills on .333 hitting, while also posting 28 digs in the three wins. In the season opener against William & Mary, Sklar led all players with 14 kills and also chipped in with seven digs. The San Jose, Calif., native added six kills and 10 digs versus Fairfield, then concluded the weekend with a 13-kill, 11-dig effort against 2011 Horizon League champion UW-Milwaukee. For the weekend, she averaged 3.67 kills and 3.11 digs per set to rank first and second on the squad, respectively. Sklar also earned all-tournament honors for her efforts.
