March 2, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech sophomore Irina Falconi has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after posting three straight-set singles wins over players ranked among the nation's top 25. It marks the third time this season the Jupiter, Fla., native has received or shared the honor.

The top-ranked Falconi opened the week with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Clemson's 18th-ranked Josipa Bek in last Wednesday's ACC match. Over the weekend, Falconi defeated No. 23 Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame (by a 6-0, 6-2 score), and No. 12 Maria Mosolova of Northwestern (6-4, 6-4) on consecutive days. Falconi is 10-1 in singles during the dual-match season, with six victories coming against nationally-ranked opponents.

Falconi also teamed with junior Sasha Krupina for three-straight doubles wins at the top spot in the lineup.
