GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State sophomore Daneika Borthwick has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. The honor is her second of her season, as she was named the league’s player of the week on Feb. 5.
Borthwick delivered the Seminoles’ match-clinching win in their 4-3 decision over No. 11 Miami on Feb. 23. The win against the Hurricanes was the first for Florida State since 2008 and fifth overall in program history.
The Cumbria, England, native defeated No. 52 Kelsey Laurente in a three-set thriller, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (3), at the No. 3 slot. Borthwick rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie the score at 6-6 before controlling the tie- breaker, 7-3, and taking the match.
No. 25 Florida State also defeated FIU, 4-1, on Feb. 22. Borthwick’s singles match against Carlotta Orlando went unfinished, however, she teamed with Kerrie Cartwright to defeat Rita Maisak and Aleksandra Trifunovis, 8-5, to secure the first point of the match.
