GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia junior Lindsey Hardenbergh has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet after leading the Cavaliers to their best week in school history.
Hardenbergh led the 23rd-ranked Cavaliers to a 2-1 record in the ITA National Indoor Championship with wins over two Top 50 ranked opponents. Virginia scored a 4-3 victory vs. No. 3 Baylor - the highest-ranked win over an opponent in school history, suffered a 4-2 semifinal loss to sixth-ranked Duke, and then blanked No. 20 Northwestern 4-0 in the consolation round.
Against No. 3 Baylor, the 67th-ranked Hardenbergh clinched the match when she rallied from 5-1 down in the third set for a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(6) win over #30 Diana Nakic on the No. 2 singles court. The Fairfax Station, Va., native also scored a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over No. 48 Ellah Nze of Duke, accounting for one of the Cavaliers' points against the ACC rival Blue Devils.
Hardenbergh and Erin Vierra clinched the doubles point vs. Northwestern with an 8-6 win over #58 Maria Mosolova and Belinda Niu. Hardenbergh's singles match with Niu was deadlocked at one set apiece when it was halted due to Virginia clinching the team victory.
