GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami senior Bianca Eichkorn and Virginia junior Emily Fraser have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Co-Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet after each led their teams to a pair of victories that included wins over ranked opponents on the No. 1 court.
The then-16th-ranked (and now No. 10) Eichkorn remained undefeated this spring at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in leading the `Canes (5-0) to a pair of wins over No. 57 FIU and No. 15 Florida State by respective scores of 7-0 and 6-1. Eichkorn cruised in her two singles matches at No. 1, beating FIU's Liset Brito, 6-2, 6-2, before a 6-0, 6-0 victory over FSU's 42nd-ranked Katie Rybakova in the top singles spot in both teams' ACC opener.
Eichkorn also won a pair of matches at No. 1 doubles alongside teammate Anna Bartenstein, beating FIU's Brito and Maria Spenceley, 8-4, and FSU's Francesca Segarelli and Ruth Seaborne, 9-7. On the season, Eichkorn is 16-4 overall and 5-0 in dual match play in the Hurricanes' top singles position and 12-2 overall and 5-0 in dual match play teaming with Bartenstein at No. 1 doubles for the `Canes.
The then 88th-ranked (and now No. 41) Fraser led Virginia to a pair of wins last Saturday, as the Cavaliers defeated No.55 Marshall by a a 6-1 score and No. 66 Winthrop by a 7-0 margin. Virginia improved to 6-0, the best start in school history.
Fraser defeated the highest ranked player in the Atlantic Region, scoring a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Marshall's No. 27 Michaela Kissell. The Rye, N.Y. native followed up with another straight-set win vs. Winthrop, downing Elizaveta Zaytseva by a 6-0, 7-5 score at No. 1.
Fraser upped her dual singles record for the still-young season to 4-1. Her weekend also included an 8-3 win in the No. 1 doubles match vs. Winthrop, as she teamed with Hana Tomljanovic for an 8-3 victory.
