GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia senior Emily Fraser has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after defeating two fellow top-50 singles opponents and providing the Cavaliers with the edge in a pair of 4-3 dual wins over top-25 teams.
The 29th-ranked Fraser, of Rye, N.Y., won both of her singles matches on the No. 1 court in straight sets in last weekend's action at Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
On Saturday, Fraser scored a 6-4, 6-1 victory over No. 27 Brynn Boren to lead the ninth-ranked Cavaliers past 18th-ranked Tennessee. Fraser also teamed with Li Xi for an 8-6 win over the Volunteers' Natalie Pluskota and Caitlyn Williams at No. 1 doubles.
On Sunday, Fraser turned back No. 47 Aeriel Ellis of Texas by a 7-6, 6-2 score. The Cavaliers rallied from a 3-0 deficit to edge the 21st-ranked Longhorns.
