UNC's Tsang Named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina senior Katrina Tsang has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after opening the spring season with four victories, including three over ranked opponents, in the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championship at Las Vegas.

The 100th-ranked Tsang reached the flight one final by defeating three straight fellow top-100 opponents, including a 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 37 Valerie Pulido of USC and a 6-3, 7-5 victory over No. 16 Mallory Burdette of Stanford. The Raleigh, N.C., native also defeated Stanford’s 78th-ranked Carolyn McVeigh and won two of three doubles matches with partner Shinann Featherston.

The 2010 spring season gets into full swing this weekend, with nine of the ACC’s 12 teams scheduled to play at least one match. The opening rounds of the ITA National Indoors are scheduled Jan. 29-31 at campus sites.
