Duke Leads Seven ACC Teams in First ITA Rankings

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Seven Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis teams are included in the top 75 of the first edition of ITA spring  rankings, led by No. 3 Duke.

Along with the 17-time ACC Champion Blue Devils, North Carolina (No. 8), Miami (No. 9), Virginia (T-No. 11), Georgia Tech (No. 20), Clemson (No. 22) and Florida State (No. 40) all open 2013 campaign ranked by the ITA.

Thirty ACC student-athletes are among the 125-player singles rankings, including five in the Top 30, led by Julia Elbaba of Virginia. Duke’s Hanna Mar begins the season ranked No. 10, followed by the North Carolina trio of Gina Suarez-Malaguti, Whitney Kay and Zoe De Bruycker at Nos. 11, 21 and 28, respectively.

The Blue Devil duo of Hanna Mara and Beatrice Capra at No. 19 lead eight doubles tandems ranked among the Top 60. In addition to Capra and Mar, Virginia’s Hana Tomljanovic and Erin Vierra and Duke’s Mary Clayton and Mariann Jodoin round out the top half of the rankings at No. 20 and No. 27, respectively.
