ATHENS, Ga. - Duke freshman and second-ranked Beatrice Capra's rookie campaign came to a close Saturday afternoon, as she was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Stanford's fifth-ranked Mallory Burdette in the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The first set was nothing like Capra had experienced in the singles tournament, as Burdette came out of the gate strong, taking a 4-1 lead in the first set, before going on to take the opening set, 6-3. It was the first time in four matches that Capra dropped the first set, and just the second time in her last 26 matches.
Capra trailed 2-0 in the second set, before tying the frame at two games apiece. Burdette would not let Capra continue the surge however, as she went on to take the final four games and end Capra's rookie campaign in straight sets. Capra concludes her season with a 32-5 overall record, a 23-2 record in dual matches and was 23-5 against ranked opponents.
