CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 9 University of Miami (13-3) women's tennis team concluded its stretch of four home matches in seven days on Tuesday, pulling together a 7-0 non-conference victory against No. 66 Brown University (12-4) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
Pink "U" Tennis shirts were available during the match with any minimum donation of $10, as the match was promoted as Breast Cancer Awareness. The jerseys worn by the Hurricanes women's tennis team will be auctioned off online, with those proceeds also benefitting breast cancer research and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Miami began the day with a sweep of all three doubles positions, beginning with the No. 1 position team of Bianca Eichkorn and Laura Vallverdu staking claim to an 8-4 victory over Brown's team of Cassandra Herzberg and Bianca Aboubakare, ranked No. 71 in the nation together. The win for Eichkorn and Vallverdu improved their record together to 5-1, as they have now claimed five-straight wins as a team.
UM followed that at the No. 3 position where the team of Danielle Mills and Claudia Wasilewski collected an 8-6 victory from the Bears' Emily Ellis and Marisa Schonfeld, allowing the Hurricanes the doubles point in the match. UM collected the doubles sweep at the No. 2 position, when the `Canes Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia turned in an 8-5 win over Brown's team of Julie Flanzer and Misia Krasowski.
