Tar Heels Fall In Freeman Memorial Finals
The North Carolina senior tandem of Sophie Grabinski and Sanaz Marand advanced to the doubles final at the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday, but the Tar Heel duo fell in the championship match to Stanford's Mallory Burdette and Stacey Tan. Senior Katrina Tsang also lost in the singles final to Tan, 7-6, 6-2, while sophomore Shinann Featherston won the consolation final with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 win over USC's Cristala Andrews.
Grabinski and Marand started the day with a 9-7 win over the fourth-seeded team of Florida's Marrit Boonstra and Anastasia Revzina before falling to the Stanford tandem, 8-6. Tsang and Featherston also teamed up for a consolation doubles victory over Oregon's Pavlina Smatova and Julia Metzger, 8-2.
Grabinski, Marand, Tsang and Featherston will join the rest of the Tar Heels Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 for UNC's first dual match of the season against Winthrop.
