GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – With regular season play completed on Sunday, the bracket for the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship is set. The three-day event begins Thursday, May 9, and concludes Saturday, May 11.
Florida State (39-15, 18-2 ACC), which will host the event at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla., enters the championship as the No. 1 seed after wrapping up its first regular season title since 2004. The Seminoles will look to become the first host institution to win the tournament since the 2004 Florida State team and will take on eighth-seeded Boston College (14-37, 2-19) on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Third-seeded Maryland (31-25, 13-7) and sixth-seeded Virginia Tech (34-18, 9-11) squared off in the final weekend of the regular season and will play again in the first quarterfinal on Thursday at 11 a.m. The Terrapins swept a doubleheader on May 4 to take the series, 2-1.
Thursday’s second quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m. will feature second-seeded NC State (30-18-1, 13-7) and seventh-seeded Virginia (21-27, 4-17). The Wolfpack swept the Cavaliers on April 20-21 during the regular season meeting between the two squads.
Fifth-seeded Georgia Tech (25-29, 10-10) and fourth-seeded North Carolina (38-18, 13-8) will play for a semifinal berth in the last quarterfinal game, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tar Heels took two of three from the Yellow Jackets, the defending ACC Champions, on April 21-22.
