GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech senior third baseman Kelsi Weseman has been named the ACC Softball Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Virginia junior Melanie Mitchell and Georgia Tech junior Hope Rush were named Co-Pitchers of the Week.
Weseman hit .571 on the week for the Jackets while tallying a 1.429 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .700. In a key three-game series against Virginia Tech, the Hutto, Texas, native hit two home runs, had four hits, and walked twice to help Georgia Tech earn the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Hokies as both teams finished the conference season with a 12-8 record in ACC play.
Mitchell went 3-0 on the week and also picked up her first save of the year as Virginia swept a doubleheader with Liberty on Wednesday before taking the series with NC State, two games to one. The native of White Plains, Md., tied her season high and was one off tying her career high with 15 strikeouts in the second game of the doubleheader with Liberty. On the weekend, she threw two complete games in two wins against the Wolfpack, including a 2-0 shutout in game one of the series. In 14 innings of work against NC State, she struck out 17 and did not walk a single batter. She finished the four games on the week with a 0.32 ERA.
Rush was a perfect 2-0 on the week with two complete-game shutouts against Virginia Tech as the Jackets won both of her appearances by 5-0 scores. The Stockbridge, Ga., native allowed just eight hits on the weekend as she picked up her ninth and 10th shutouts of the season. She struck out nine between the two games in the 14.0 innings pitched. At the plate, Rush connected on two home runs and drove in seven runs.
