ACC Players of the Week Presented by Chevrolet

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech sophomore Caitlin Jordan has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Maryland senior Kerry Hickey and North Carolina freshman Lori Spingola have been named co-Pitchers of the Week for the period of April 18-24. All three helped their teams earn conference series victories. Jordan hit three home runs in a single game at Virginia, Hickey pitched her 11th career no-hitter against Florida State and Spingola posted a 0.00 ERA.

A first baseman/designated player from Stockbridge, Ga., Jordan sent three hits beyond the fence in the second game of a doubleheader at league foe Virginia on Saturday. The three round trippers tied Georgia Tech's single-game record. Only one other Yellow Jacket has accomplished the feat, doing so twice in 2007. Jordan went 3-for-4 at the plate, tallying four RBI as Georgia Tech earned a 9-2 victory. In the first game of the day Jordan was 2-for-4 and scored a run. The Yellow Jackets won 8-0 to complete the series victory. Jordan finished the week with a .625 batting average and a 1.750 slugging percentage.

Hickey pitched two complete game shutouts and earned three wins on the week. The right-hander from Huntingtown, Md., pitched 17 innings, surrendering seven hits and striking out 22. She opened the conference series at Florida State by pitching the 11th no-hitter of her career. Hickey struck out 10 as the Terrapins prevailed 1-0. She came on in the bottom of the seventh in the second game to close out a 7-4 victory. Her first win of the week came Tuesday against Binghamton as she allowed just three hits and no runs, striking out 10 in a 5-0 decision. Opposing batters hit just .123 against her on the week.

A right-hander from Atlanta, Ga., Spingola pitched 18.2 innings, giving up just eight hits and striking out 21 batters en route to a 3-0 week. She started the week Wednesday facing Elon, surrendering two hits and fanning 10 as North Carolina won 11-4. In the series opener against Boston College Saturday, Spingola recorded a complete game shutout, giving up three hits and striking out seven. She now ranks ninth all-time at North Carolina in single-season strikeouts with 244. Her three victories on the week give her 24 for the year, good for fifth on the program's single-season list. Spingola finished the week with a 0.00 ERA.

ACC softball action continues Wednesday with five teams in action, including Maryland, which hosts Delaware State in a doubleheader. Georgia Tech travels to Boston College for a three-game series beginning Saturday.
