ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland sophomore Candice Beards and Florida State freshman Lacey Waldrop have been named the ACC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday. It is the second weekly award this season for Waldrop and first for Beards.

Beards led the Terrapins to a 4-1 week at the plate with a .538 average, seven hits, and seven RBIs. She walked six times while only striking out once and scored four runs. In Maryland’s three games at NC State, the Ringwood, N.J., native had four RBIs and hit three doubles.

Waldrop did not allow a single run in 18.2 innings pitched last week. She had two complete game shutouts against Boston College, and only walked one out of the 66 batters she faced. The Chester, Va., native allowed opponents to hit just .123 in the three games as she continues to lead both the team and the ACC in earned run average at 1.20.
