GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Georgia Tech junior catcher and third baseman Alysha Rudnik and Virginia senior pitcher Melanie Mitchell have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference.
Rudnik led Georgia Tech to a 3-1 record last week, including a 2-1 mark in conference play. The junior scored seven runs and had seven RBIs on nine hits, including two doubles and a home run. Rudnik hit .750 and had a slugging percentage of 1.250 to earn her second ACC weekly honor of the season.
In a midweek contest against Kennesaw State, Rudnik led the Jackets to a 17-3 win with two runs and two RBIs. In three games against NC State, Rudnik was 8-for-10 with five RBIs and five runs scored. Rudnik went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, and then was 3-for-3 with two runs in the second game. The native of Lawrenceville, Ga., accounted for nine of Georgia Tech's 14 runs in the two games.
Mitchell led the Cavaliers to a series win over Boston College, pitching complete games in both Virginia wins over the Eagles. In Sunday's 4-1 victory, Mitchell tied the program's all-time record for wins with 74 and became the ACC's seventh pitcher to record 1,000 career strikeouts.
For the week, the native of White Plains, Md., posted an earned run average of 1.00 with 23 strikeouts. It is her first conference weekly award this season and fifth of her career.
