ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State sophomore Emily Weiman and Florida State sophomore Lacey Waldrop have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Pitchers of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference. NC State junior Kirsty Grant was recognized as the ACC Player of the Week.

Weiman was dominant in the circle for NC State in two games against No. 19 Virginia Tech on Saturday, allowing just two earned runs in the doubleheader. She did not allow the Hokies a hit until the fourth inning of the first game, a 10-2 victory in five innings marking the first time NC State has ever run-ruled a ranked opponent in the program’s 10-year history. The native of Pasadena, Md., allowed just two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game, after the Pack had built a 9-0 lead. In the two games, Weiman allowed just six hits and three walks, while striking out four.

Waldrop led Florida State to a 3-1 week, including a series victory over North Carolina. In a midweek game at Auburn, Waldrop struck out three of four batters faced to pick up the save in a 6-3 win over the Tigers. After dropping the first game of the series against the Tar Heels, Waldrop was 2-0 on Sunday in a doubleheader to clinch the series. In the two games, the native of Chester, Va., posted an earned run average of 0.62 as the Seminoles won 9-1 and 3-1. For the week, Waldrop held opposing hitters to a .167 average.

Grant was one of the leaders of NC State’s offense in the doubleheader sweep over No. 19 Virginia Tech, going 5-for-6 in the two games with a home run and three RBIs. Grant also had a stolen base, improving to a perfect 4-for-4 on the season. By completing the sweep with a 9-2 win in the second game, the Pack took its first sweep of a ranked opponent since 2007.
