GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland junior third baseman Lexi Carroll and Virginia junior pitcher Melanie Mitchell have been named the ACC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Carroll helped lead the Terrapins to a 5-0 week as she hit .615 with eight hits and knocked in a team-high seven RBIs with one double and one home run. She went 4-4 against Rhode Island and knocked in five runs to help the Terrapins battle back from a five-run deficit against Princeton. The Eau Gallie, Fla., native walked three times and score three runs as well.
Mitchell had two complete game outings to pick up her ninth and 10th wins of the season as Virginia swept Georgia Tech on the road. The White Plains, Md., native struck out 11 batters in game one while allowing just three hits, and struck out five more in game three. On the weekend, she limited the Yellow Jackets to a .182 average and finished with a 1.00 ERA in 14 innings of work.
