Florida State's Hamilton and North Carolina's Johnson Share Pitching Award, While Georgia Tech's Yee Earns Third Consecutive Weekly Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Florida State junior pitcher Sarah Hamilton and North Carolina senior pitcher Amber Johnson were named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Pitchers of the Week, and Georgia Tech senior second baseman Jen Yee was selected Player of the Week for the third consecutive time, announced today. Hamilton and Johnson combined to throw three no-hitters, while Yee collected a dozen hits over the weekend.

Sarah HamiltonHamilton threw back-to-back no-hitters for No. 22/18 (USA Today/ESPN.com) Florida State at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., striking out seven batters while issuing only three walks in no-hitting Hofstra by an 8-0 count (Feb. 27). The Tallahassee, Fla., native followed that performance by fanning 14 more batters in 7.0 innings in a 6-0 win over Kent State (Feb. 28). Hamilton also struck out 10 Illinois batters in the tournament’s opening game (Feb. 26), and finished the weekend allowing only three runs on three hits with 31 strikeouts.

Johnson struck out 22 batters in just 14.0 innings of work in No. 25/23 NorthAmber JohnsonCarolina’s wins against Fairfield (Feb. 26) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 27). The Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., native allowed just two base hits struck out 12 in shutting out the Stags, 2-0, then punched out 10 Panthers in her 8-0 no-hit victory against Pitt.

Yee continued her torrid pace by going 11-for-22 at the plate (.545) with six home runs and 14 runs batted-in for the week, guiding the No. 11/8 Yellow Jackets to five wins, including four at the NFCA Leadoff Classic. The New Delta, British Columbia native had three-hit games against Kennesaw State (Feb. 24), Arkansas (Feb. 27) and Louisiana - Lafayette (Feb. 27) and homers in five of the six games, including two against the Razorbacks. After three weeks of the 2010 ACC softball season, Yee is leading the league in each triple-crown category, with a .587 batting average, 10 home runs, and 27 RBI, and leads the ACC in five other major offensive categories.
