GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State redshirt junior pitcher Monica Perry and Maryland freshman catcher Shannon Bustillos have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week.
Perry struck out 37 batters and walked only two in 21.1 innings pitched as the Seminoles went 5-0 over the weekend. Opponents hit just .133 off the Whitesburg, Ga., native, as she compiled a 0.98 ERA for the week. Against Wisconsin, she claimed her first relief win of the season, retiring nine consecutive Badgers to end the game. In the Citrus Classic, she went 3-0 with an ERA of 0.86 with 28 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.
Bustillos started all seven games behind the plate and threw out eight baserunners as the Terrapins went 6-1 last week. At the plate, she broke up a scoreless game with a three-run double against Wisconsin and hit her first career home run against Oakland. She finished the week with six RBIs, two runs scored, a double, a home run, and converted on two stolen base chances.
