ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College sophomore shortstop CJ Chirichigno and North Carolina junior pitcher Lori Spingola have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Chirichigno led the Eagles to a 3-2 mark in their first week of the regular season. The native of Costa Mesa, Calif., went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a double in a 6-5 win over Miami (Ohio) on Friday. Against Toledo on Sunday, Chirichigno drove in three runs and hit two doubles as she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases.

The award is the first of Chirichigno’s career. For the week, she was 8-for-14 with five RBIs, three doubles, four stolen bases, and two runs.

In two appearances last week, Spingola threw two complete games in leading the Tar Heels to a 3-0 record. The native of Roswell, Ga., threw a no-hitter against North Dakota State on Feb. 21, striking out nine and coming one walk away from a perfect game. On Sunday against Penn State, Spingola struck out six and allowed two runs in a 10-2 North Carolina victory.

Spingola finished the week with six hits and two runs allowed in 13.0 innings pitched with 15 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.08. Opposing batters hit .136 and only walked twice. It is the 10th weekly honor for Spingola, who also won the award last week.
