GREENSBORO, N.C. — Georgia Tech senior second baseman Jen Yee and freshman pitcher Hope Rush were named Atlantic Coast Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending February 14, announced today. The duo helped Georgia Tech to four victories at the University of South Florida Wilson-DeMarini Tournament, including a 3-0 shutout of No. 3/5 Florida (Feb. 13). Georgia Tech’s victory over the Gators marked a win over the highest-ranked opponent in program history.
Yee batted at a .778 clip for the tournament, going seven-for-eight at the plate with a pair of doubles, one triple, two homeruns, eight runs scored, and five runs-batted in. The New Delta, British Columbia, native collected multiple hits in three of Georgia Tech’s four contests, and racked up a 1.889 slugging percentage as well as a .846 on-base percentage. Against Florida, the USA Softball Player of the Year candidate was one-for-three with a triple and one run scored.
Rush, appearing in her first career start against the Gators, worked all seven innings on the mound without giving up a run and struck out seven batters, while allowing just five hits. The Stockbridge, Ga., native followed that performance by going the distance again in a 3-0 victory over East Carolina (Feb. 14). Against the Pirates, Rush allowed only two hits and fanned six batters, finishing the week with a 2-0 record, 13 strikeouts, a 0.00 earned run average, allowed opposing batters to a meager .149 batting average. Additionally, Rush batted .333 (four-for-12) with two homeruns, five RBI, and two runs scored.
