ATLANTA - Redshirt senior Jen Yee went 4-for-5 with a double, seven runs scored, a home run, two RBI and three walks as the No. 9/7 Georgia Tech Softball team (37-6) swept Georgia Southern (20-19) Tuesday afternoon at Mewborn Field.
The Yellow Jackets won Game One 14-2 in five innings and then scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game Two to pull out a 5-4 win. Junior Kristine Priebe was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh inning of Game Two forcing in the tying run and then freshman Hope Rush had a walk-off RBI single.
Sophomore Jessica Coan (11-1) won the first game as she pitched four perfect innings with four strikeouts. In Game Two, Rush (20-4) won her 20th game of the season as she worked three innings of relief. Junior Christy Jones was 3-for-4 on the day with three runs scored and a stolen base. Sophomore Kelsi Weseman also had three hits to go along with two runs scored, a double, four RBI, two walks and a hit by pitch. Rush had four RBI on the day, including the walk-off hit in the night cap.
The only home run on the day for Tech belonged to Yee. It was her 22nd of the season moving her within two of Whitney Haller for the Georgia Tech and ACC single-season record. Haller hit 24 in 2006.
Game Two started off as a pitcher's duel between Tech junior Kristen Adkins and Georgia Southern ace Brianna Streetmon. It was a scoreless game until the third inning when Tech struck for the game's first run. Yee doubled with one out and came around to score on a two-out single by Weseman.
