ATLANTA - Freshman Hope Rush hit two home runs and redshirt senior Jen Yee went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run as the No. 11/8 Georgia Tech Softball team (9-1) defeated Kennesaw State (6-4), 8-3, in the home opener Wednesday night at Mewborn Field.
Jessica Coan improved to 3-0 as she pitched five-plus innings allowing three earned runs on six hits and a walk. She struck out five. Rush picked up her first career save by pitching two scoreless innings of relief and striking out five as well.
Georgia Tech took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Rush crushed a two-run home run to left-centerfield. It was her team-high fifth round-tripper of the season and scored redshirt senior Jen Yee who led off the inning with a single to extend her hitting streak to 10 games.
Rush allowed a two-out walk and single, but was able to get out of the jam and preserve the Jackets' two-run lead. Tech then got the three runs back when Yee hit a three-run home run in the sixth. For Yee it was her third hit of the game and fifth home run of the season.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Dodging rain drops all evening, the No. 18/22 Florida State softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games with an 8-0 victory over Jacksonville University.
Hamilton picked up her fifth win of the season in three innings of work. The Tallahassee native gave up just one hit and struck out five. She only walked one Dolphins (7-2) batter.
Senior Terese Gober replaced her in the fourth and struck out all six batters that she saw.
On the offensive side, team captain Carly Wynn paced the scoring onslaught with four RBIs on 2-for-4 hitting. Sophomore Shayla Jackson, senior Tory Haddad and junior Mallory Borden all had one RBI each for an FSU team that went 8-for-22 at the plate.
North Carolina Postponed
Due to the strong possibility of winter weather this evening the game between North Carolina and UNC Wilmington has been postponed. The game has been rescheduled to March 25th at 4 p.m.
Virginia Tech Postponed
Wednesday’s scheduled softball game between Virginia Tech and Radford has been postponed due to field conditions at Tech Softball Park. No make-up date has been announced
